Light
is a type of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation of
wavelength which can be detected by the human eyes. Animals can also
see the visible light. When light hits on an opaque object, it forms a shadow whereas light can pass through transparent things the mosteasily. Light travels in a straight line and creating shadow when the
path of the light is blocked. In vacuum, light moves at a speed of
299,792,458meters per second which means light takes about 8 minutes
to reach the Earth from the Sun.
Light
is an electromagnetic radiation that show properties of both
waves-nature and particles-nature and it is made up of streams of
tiny energy packets called photons/quanta which always at the speed
of light in a vacuum. Visible light is a polychromatic light in which
it is made of many different coloured lights of different wavelength
mixed up together. Because of which it gets split up into different
colours of monochromatic light forming a rainbow pattern when a
visible light passes through a prism or water droplets. When a
visible light passes through another medium, it gets refracted
according to the wavelengths of each monochromatic lights in it until
we see the whole visible spectrum of visible light as a rainbow. In
this visible spectrum, red light has the longest wavelength whereas
the violet has the shortest wavelength.
Our
human eyes react to the light by seeing each wavelength as a
different colour. When we see something, we see the light it reflects
or the light it emits. The human eye sees the wavelengths of all of
the visible lights (monochromatic or polychromatic) that was not
absorbed and the combination of those wavelengths leaves the brain
with the impression of a colour. This is because the molecules of the
object we see that make up the object absorb certain light waves,
leaving the other light wave to bounce off.
